CONSTRUCTION FINISHED: OSV SOUTH CONTINUES TO TAKE SHAPE

With overall remodeling completed, set up of new machinery and hiring continue for Outside Van’s new van production facility, Outside Van South. Announced earlier this year, Outside Van renovated a new 130,000-square-foot building on the border of Portland and Gresham, OR, that will exclusively produce their latest product offerings: models Approach and Syncline. In addition, these Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans will be available for financing at nationwide RV dealerships.

Continuing their commitment to excellence, industry-leading manufacturing equipment and top-of-the-line materials have been sourced and arrive daily at the new location. In addition, Monica Tomchick, Human Resource, and Payroll Specialist, is actively recruiting local talent into the fold. Tomchick shares, “This is an exciting time for all of us currently with Outside Van and those yet to join our team. We have many great opportunities to fill, primarily on-the-floor production roles, including electrical technicians and cabinet manufacturing to welders and CNC operators.” Outside Van looks to initially hire 30 new staff members exclusively for their South facility.

More details about their flagship models have been shared. Tim Wimmer, Engineering Director, discussed which chassis size to build first. “We knew we were giving ourselves a challenge when deciding to create two distinct models, each on a different chassis size. Sure, we could recycle design elements between a 144 and 170, but that wouldn’t be true to our style. Each model, Approach and Syncline, has unique features and is built with different customers in mind.” With seating and sleeping for four, Approach will be an excellent choice for families and those with lots of gear to haul. Wimmer adds, “The most common chassis size we build on is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170. We wanted to get the most approachable van out to our community first. As production of our first 144, Syncline, ramps up, we’ve already learned a lot which will make for smoother sailing with this build.” The official release of Syncline is hinted at in Quarter 4 of 2023.

Approach, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170, is set to debut at the upcoming 65th Annual Spring RV Show held at the Portland Expo Center starting on March 9th. This van will be featured in their partner RV dealer’s booth, Johnson RV. Tour the van in-person while at the show and browse open careers on the Outside Van website.
